Finally, an update on my Unity programming journey I feel is worthy of making on this blog. It has been a while since my last post but I am happy to say that I have completed the Unity beginner programming course. Not only that, but I just completed and passed the Unity Certified User exam. It has been a tough journey but I am very glad I stuck with it and completed it!
The course itself, available to anyone for free on the Unity Learn site, started out strong with simple and interesting small projects teaching me about the fundamentals of C# programming. From making a car move around obstacles, to saving player information across different play sessions, I have now gotten to the point where I understand what I used to just consider "coding gibberish". Having the unreal blueprinting basis probably did help with grasping the unity basics, though I still ran into my fair few hurdles and problems.
For anyone considering where to start learning about Unity programming, I would certainly recommend this course, at least for the beginning. After a certain point though, the difficulty took a big step up with less support, this made some of the later content seem somewhat rushed by the creators. However, the community of other people who have attempted this course were there to help throughout. Not only did they confirm that the course did get much more difficult, but they provided useful links and explanations as to what you should do if stuck. Those people are, in my opinion, absolute legends. If you find yourself stuck on any part of that course, look to the comments on each lesson and also don't be afraid to use the vast wealth of knowledge available on the internet. You're not the only one out there!
Completing the examination and gaining my certification was a big goal of mine from the start of this course. I am pleased that I managed to pass, not only because it was not cheap haha, but also that I can put it on my CV and therefore potentially be a more attractive candidate to employers. Of course, I need to showcase my new found abilities, especially relating to the implementation of audio into projects. Therefore, I will be potentially be posting some of the content from my time on this course as well as other personal projects. So, watch out on this blog!
